A set of European good practices and non-formal methodologies for the CSR in the Wood and Furniture sectors

The consortium of the ALLVIEW project has reached another result.

After the excellent study within T1, the identification of Regional/national policies about CSR, partners of “ALLVIEW – Alliance of Centres of Vocational Excellence in the Furniture and Wood sector”, the partners of WP4 wanted to analyze and identify in their region some good practices related with the 3 CSR pillars:

  • Circular Economy
  • Inclusion of migrants and refugees
  • Accessibility of people with special needs

Each partner, who took part in this activity, carried out an in-depth research to highlight the good practices of their territory relating not only to CSR but also to the wood and furniture sectors, the main focus of the ALLVIEW project.

The identification of good practices serves several purposes. Most importantly, in the framework of the project, the collection of good practices will be a valuable source of learning and inspiration for replication, for each of the project’s partners, but also the general European public.

In addition to good practices, a series of national non-formal methodologies have also analyzed that can be used by SMEs as didactic material for their training.

The two researches led to an excellent result. In addition to the report, a series of useful infographics have been created to better explain the information found.

During the two days partner have carried on a lot of different activities based on the work packages of the project.  All the activities were conducted thanks to a workshop modality. Each work package leader in a first moment update the consortium regarding the steps already took and after that divided in groups partners have the possibility to work on the deliverables. The methodologies used were different: brainstorming, realization of creative moldboard, experimentation with virtual reality and 3D printing, non-formal activities and so on…

Partners had the opportunity to share opinions, experiences and knowledge.

Also, a part was dedicated to the financial issue and to the mobilities part that will see teachers and students from different part of Europe participating in training sessions that will start in the upcoming months.

ALLVIEW  is a project implemented under the Erasmus+ programme KA3 – Support for policy reform. The project is carried out thanks to the cooperation of 24 partners from different European countries, backgrounds, and expertise.

Allview project focuses the attention on the role that centers of professional excellence have in EU VET policy, a topic which today is becoming of particular importance. In particular the project focuses on VET centers of excellence in 2 specific sectors, namely: furniture and wood. Within these two sectors, EU VET schools seek to implement effective laboratory activities for the training of their students through the use of “traditional methods” of wood and furniture manufacturing.

During the meeting also HMC college gave the opportunity to visit their laboratories and to present their best practices at local level. It was an opportunity to know better the school and to have opinion about the Wood and furniture sectors from students and teachers who are studying and teaching in the two fields.

Also, was important the involvement of two different stakeholder: CBM presentation on Wood & Furniture sector and circular economy situation in the Netherlands and Katapult workshop.

They gave information regarding the topics of ALLVIEW project and also regarding the CoVE world.

Partner will meet again in Bordeaux in France.

The Pact for Skills one year on: 450 organisations pledge to reskill over 1.5 million people in Europe

Having the right skills is essential for individuals’ success in a fast changing labour market. The recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic has accelerated the rhythm of change in how we live, learn and work, as well as how we progress in our careers. The Pact for Skills was set up to bring together employers, workers, public employment services, regional authorities and others to identify what skills will be needed in different sectors of the economy to ensure we can flourish in a more green and digital society.

Today, the Pact celebrates its first birthday. A lot has happened in the last year and the strong alliances already built are creating more opportunities for working-age people across Europe to learn new skills and improve their prospects in the labour market and at work

Bringing stakeholders together

More than 450 organisations from all Member States have signed up – and the community is growing. Members include:

  • big multinational companies such as Nestlé, SAP, Google, Cisco, Microsoft, Ford Europe and Hitachi Europe
  • local training providers
  • chambers of commerce
  • small and medium-sized enterprises
  • sectoral clusters such as the AVASEAN cleantech cluster in Spain and the “mareFVG” marine technology cluster in Italy
  • regional authorities
  • employer and trade union representatives.

What does it mean to be a Pact for Skills member?

Everyone joining the Pact commits to a charter to build quality and inclusive skills initiatives and work against discrimination and for equal opportunities.
They also set out for their partnership or organisation concrete targets on what they want to do to increase skills, for instance a commitment to:

  • train people in their sector
  • invest in up and reskilling
  • develop new training programmes
  • promote the value of learning in their organisation and with their partners.

Following high level round tables with movers and shakers in the 14 ‘industrial ecosystems’ identified by the EU Industry Strategy, large-scale partnerships are starting to emerge.
The first five partnerships in automotive, microelectronics, aerospace & defence, offshore renewable energy and shipbuilding and maritime technology – have announced commitments, pledging to up- and reskill over 1.5 million people in Europe. They’re also working on ways to attract new workers to their industry and gathering intelligence on future skills needs in co-operation with EU social partners.

Examples of what is happening

The Automotive Skills Alliance: more than 80 partners working in 5 thematic areas that respond to some of the most pressing drivers of change for the automotive sector. In the coming years they’ll train 700,000 people for a mobility workforce of the future.

The MATES project is building a partnership under the Pact for Skills to attract talent and build capacity in offshore renewable energies.

In microelectronics, over 50 businesses, R&D hubs, education providers and NGOs have come together to set out a roadmap towards a highly skilled workforce. ‘Access to the right skills will be THE currency for the whole semiconductor industry going forward. With the Pact for Skills we have the right partners working together to truly create that skills advantage for Europe’ (Martin Stöckl, SVP People and Organization effectiveness, Infineon Technologies AG)

The Pact for Skills is for social partners industriAll Europe and Ceemet, a tool to provide stakeholders examples of best practices and means to take action and step up re- and upskilling making the green and digital transitions a success. ‘We are key to support the implementation of the Pact for Skills in the Member States as this is where the skills policies are developed. At national, regional and/or local level, our members jointly anticipate and manage skills and training needs, develop skills policies for our industries and organise training’.

These are just a few examples, lots more are on our website.

Get involved

Through the Pact for Skills, the European Commission is bringing together stakeholders to create a culture of lifelong learning at work.
The Pact is one of the 12 flagship actions of the European Skills Agenda that the Commission presented in July 2020.
The Agenda’s actions, including the Pact for Skills, set a policy framework for delivering on the objectives of the European Pillar of Social Rights.
This includes the EU level target, welcomed earlier this year at the Porto Social Summit by Heads of State and Government, that by 2030 at least 60% of adults should participate in training every year.

MEETING OF DIRECTORS-GENERAL FOR VOCATIONAL EDUCATION AND TRAINING (DGVT) 4th October – Presentation of ALLVIEW report

The report “Selection of technologies related with Augmented, virtual and Mixed Reality” will be presented during the MEETING OF DIRECTORS-GENERAL FOR VOCATIONAL EDUCATION AND TRAINING (DGVT) organized by the Slovenian presidency of the council of the EU the next 4th of October. Our coordinator CETEM will join the session devoted to: DIGITALISATION OF VET PROVISION AND DIGITAL SKILLS IN VET AND WORK-BASED LEARNING.

There is scope for work-based learning in VET to make more use of digital learning that simulates practical experiences in training provision, for instance through immersive technologies like virtual and augmented reality. In addition, there is also potential to improve the cooperation and dialogue between VET schools and training companies through jointly used digital tools for learning and training, in particular between teachers and in-company trainers. However, it is important to find the optimal balance between real-world and virtual experiences, so that digital tools generate added value. The last proposals of ALLVIEW for the furniture and wood sector in this line will be presented with the aim of inspiring other industrial sectors.

ALLVIEW – Analysis of open-source tools for skill assessment matching under ESCO system. Gaps and needs identified.

The consortium of partners of the ALLVIEW project is glad to announce that the first report of WP1.1 AI-based skills assessment framework – Analysis and evaluation of current open-source tools for skill assessment matching under ESCO system is now available in the download section of our website https://allview.eu

This is a first step of a more complex work under development in the framework of WP1, where the main result will be an open-source software platform (ALLVIEW platform) for broad skills assessment, identifying specific areas in need of development, and offering targeted training to address the defined gaps. The resulting tool will deliver training path recommendations, for workers and enterprises, VET-centre suggestions, enterprise skill needs, learning outcomes, etc…

The partners involved in WP1 have performed this analysis of the state of art in open-source software tools for skill assessment, with the goal of finding gaps and needs to be covered in the ALLVIEW platform. The state of art describes in depth 12 software tools based on 16 features for the ALLVIEW platform requirements.

The existing tools studied cover some of the requirements set for the ALLVIEW platform, but none of those platforms covers all of them. One of the most important features is to integrate the ESCO classification, the European reference on skills, occupations, and professional profiles.

To add extra value to the analysis, the opinion of stakeholders and final users of the ALLVIEW platform have been collected through a set of questionnaires. The analysis of the responses have reinforced the gaps and needs identified.

A sustainability and exploitation plan, for the future ALLVIEW platform, is also included, in which we explain how the consortium will ensure its continuity after the end of the project.
Finally, the main conclusions will be used as input for the next tasks in WP1.

Report on analysis of open-source tools for skill assessment

ALLVIEW – A collection of Circular Economy policies in Europe

The consortium of partners of the ALLVIEW project is glad to announce that the first report of the WP4. T1 – Identification of Regional/National policies about CSR is now available in the download section of our website Allview.eu

The main objective of this task is to analyse the status of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in the furniture and wood sector in the EU. The partner consortium has analysed the legislative tools that regulate CSR in various European countries. The research took into consideration the three pillars of CSR: sustainability, inclusivity and accessibility.

This first document is the first step within a more complex and elaborate work. Specifically, three different reports will be developed which have CSR in the wood and furniture sector as their main topic.

The first report is now available and concerns CSR in relation to waste prevention and Circular Economy. The following two documents will be on the topics of migrants and refugees and on the inclusion of people with disabilities in the labour market and in education and training.

Thanks to this research, the partners’ consortium wants to enhance the awareness regarding CSR at a European level, considering not only the sustainable aspects regarding the environmental topics, but also inclusivity and accessibility aspects, addressed to a wider range of people with fewer opportunities: migrants, disabled people and people with social disadvantages in general.

The document here presented is in an English version. The translated versions German, Italian, Spanish, Poland, Slovenian and Dutch will be available soon.
