FederlegnoArredo: A Comprehensive Platform for Sustainable Transition in the Wood-Furniture Sector

Nov 7, 2024

FederlegnoArredo (FLA), the Italian leader in the wood-furniture sector, has launched an ambitious project to support companies in transitioning toward sustainable practices. During 2023-2024, it developed advanced digital tools, such as the FLA Plus platform, and collaborated with the European Union through the FurnCSR project to address industry demands for regulatory support and innovative solutions in circular economy practices.

FLA Plus is a digital hub offering practical tools, such as TECLA (Circular Economy Transition Self-Assessment Tool), to assess the level of circularity within business processes across areas like material resources, energy, and waste management. It also includes MATERIALLY, a library of approximately 100 sustainable materials for the wood-furniture sector, designed to encourage the use of low-environmental-impact components.

Through the European project FurnCSR, FLA has provided companies with tools for self-assessing corporate social responsibility (CSR), offering a practical guide to develop long-term sustainability strategies. The program includes an 80-question assessment that maps corporate performance in social and environmental responsibility.

To assist companies in adapting to European environmental regulations, FLA organized the webinar “How the New Eco-Design Regulation Will Influence Business Strategies?” aimed at clarifying the implications of the ESPR (Eco-Design for Sustainable Products Regulation). This event explored critical topics such as sustainable design requirements and the Digital Product Passport (DPP).

Finally, the ALLVIEW project offered coaching to help companies maximize the potential of FLA Plus tools, highlighting the need for internal resources dedicated to sustainability and regulatory compliance, especially for companies with export markets. The initiative identified sector challenges: the limited development of CSR, difficulties in integrating vulnerable workers, and the need to implement verification systems for product sustainability.

FederlegnoArredo not only upholds the tradition of Made in Italy but also demonstrates how the wood-furniture sector can grow by integrating innovation, circularity, and environmental responsibility.
